Computer Science Education Week
Clarendon Students Get in on the Fun of Coding
Students in Mr. Sommer's Technology classes get in on the fun of coding as part of Computer Science Education Week. Students got to code snowflakes with the ladies of Frozen, Elsa and Anna (, Mr. Sommer reports that this is just another day in his computer class as coding is quickly becoming 
a popular part of every day.

Honeywell Chooses Secaucus Martinelli-Wurst for Educators in Space Academy
Far out! Michelle Martinelli-Wurst, Clarendon's and Huber's Gifted and Talented teacher has been chosen to participate in Honeywell's prestigious Educators in Space Academy. She was chosen as one of approximately 100 educators from around the globe to take part in exercises that simulate activities as an astronaut serving missions in space.

This coming June, Mrs. Martinelli-Wurst will travel U.S. Space & Rocket Center on the Huntsville campus of the University of Alabama. There she will receive a week of training in aspects of mathematics and science that she will bring back to her students and the entire Secaucus educational community.

We would like to thank all parents for coming out to the PAC on the evening of 12/15 for our first Parent Academy night. The presentations and handouts are available on under Departments > Assessments in a file called PARCC/CCSS Parent Academy.

The questions you asked last night are currently being generated into an FAQ and will be up in the coming days. We look forward to seeing you in the near future at our Instructional Nights! Dates are TBA.

Secaucus Parent Academy
Secaucus Public School District and Secaucus Education Association Co-Sponsor CCSS/PARCC Parent Academy Info Night 12/15/2014 @ 6:30 in the PAC
The Secaucus Public School District (SPSD) in conjunction with the Secaucus Education Association (SEA) will be co-sponsoring an informative evening for parents on 12/15/14 at 6:30 p.m. in the MS/HS PAC. Topics will include a general overview of the district adoption of the CCSS and PARCC, how to help your children with CCSS, Title 1 targeted assistance funding, and our Basic Skills initiatives.
District administrators will present various initiatives in place and in development to support your students and you. Light refreshments provided by the SEA through a NJEA PRIDE grant, will be served.

Later in the year, the SPSD and SEA plan to co-sponsor our CCSS Parent Academy Boot Camps evenings that will provide hands-on instruction on how to assist your children with CCSS-related work. Secaucus Board of Education Approves Revisions Two Policies
At its regular meeting on November 20, 2014, the Secaucus Board of Education approved the revisions of two previously existing policies: 5530: Student Substance Abuse and 5600: Student Discipline - Code of Conduct. PDF versions of the policies can be downloaded via the links provided. Please review these policies as they directly relate to your children.
Spring Musical
SHS Announces Hairspray as 2015 Spring Musical
SHS announces that it has chosen Hairspray as the spring 2015 spring musical. Hairspray is a colorful comedic musical that follow the exploits of Tracy Turnblad as she gains celebrity on The Corny Collins dance show, then campaigns for social justice and in 1962 Baltimore. 

Performances are all in the PAC; dates and times are as follows: 
  • Thursday, 4/16 @ 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday 4/17 @ 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday 4/18, @ 3:00 p.m.
Tickets will be $12 and will go on sale on or about 3/1/2015.

SBOE Reports on 2014 Top SHS Students​
At the monthly Board of Education meeting on November 18, Trustee Jack McStowe delivered a brief report regarding the our students' time-in-district to their GPAs and SAT scores. Of the 144 members of the Class of 2014, 130, or 90%, took the SAT at least once.
The data indicate that of the 130 students who took the SAT at the top 10% of the class of 2014 received an average GPA of 4.086 and scored an average of 1918 out of a possible 2400 on their SATs. Of these 13 students, 85% of them were enrolled in Secaucus schools at 3rd grade or before; 86% of them enrolled during elementary school.
Students at the top 25% of the graduating class scored an 1801 and received an average GPA of 3.874. Of these students, 81% of them entered the school system during Grade 3 or prior. Ninety-four percent of them enrolled during elementary school.
Students in the top third of the class of 2014 scored an average of 1733 and received an average GPA of 3.762. Of these students, 80% of them entered the school system during Grade 3 or prior. Ninety-five percent of them enrolled during elementary school.
The average combined SAT score (Critical Reading, Writing and Mathematics) in NJ is 1523. In Secaucus, the Class of 2014’s SAT average combined score is 1460.
The District Testing Report was delivered at the October 2014 board meeting which outlined the district SAT averages among other data points. This report can be found on the district’s homepage or under Departments > Assessments.
SHS Vollyeball Team State Champions!
Secaucus High School Clinches State Volleyball Title
Down rival Bogota in two games 

This afternoon, the Secaucus High 
School Patriots girls’ volleyball team defeated the Bogota Buccaneers 25 to 22 and 25 to 15. Today's win represents the school's 19th NJSIAA girls' volleyball championship.

The contest was held at South Brunswick High School in Monmouth Junction, NJ.

The entire Secaucus community is proud of the volleyball team’s hard word, dedication and continued commitment to excellence! Congratulations!

CDC Publishes Enterovirus-D68 Factsheet
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has developed an Enterovirus-D68 (EV-D68) fact sheet that outlines preventative practices that will help ensure your child does not contract it or other illnesses. The fact sheet can be downloaded here.

The Secaucus Public School District is concerned about the continued health and safety of all members of our educational community. There have been reports of illnesses spreading among children. One of these diseases is Enterovirus D68. More information about this virus can be found here.
District Announces Revised Attendance Polcy and Regulations
The Secaucus Public School School is committed to the continued academic excellence of all students. As such, the Board of Education recently revised its Student Attendance Policy and Regulations. NJDoE Releases CCSS Brochure for Parents
The New Jersey Department of Education recently released a brochure discussing the
 important aspects of the Common Core State Standards (Click here to download the brochure). We encourage all parents, guardians, students, and other interested individuals to read it to become more informed about the state-approved standards that drive our district's curriculum and guide our students' learning.
