Autism Awareness
Clarendon Teachers and Students Raise Money for Autism Awareness
Clarendon School is observing Autism Awareness with various activities on Fridays during April. Ms. Janet Colamarino and Ms. Lucia Abello  have organized many ways for all to participate and reach out to our community at the same time.

Some of these fundraising activities will support Spectrum Works, a non-profit screen printing company in Secaucus that hires individuals with autism. Many of Secaucus High School’s students with autism have had an opportunity to intern and work there.

Spectrum Works designed and printed shirts for the staff and students of Clarendon School to purchase.  The shirts will be worn for a dress down day every Friday in April.  All of the proceeds - over $2,000 - was donated to Spectrum Works.

Other fundraising activities throughout the month include a pretzel and blue Gatorade sale and a blue Italian Ice sale which is made by a local ice cream shop.  With the purchase of a blue ice, each student adds a puzzle piece to a bulletin board completing a giant puzzle.  The proceeds from these activities are donated to Autism NJ.

Kindergarten News
The kindergarten classes at Clarendon school experimented with worms for letter "W" week. The students took a guess at how many worms they would find. They had a discussion about worms and took predictions if worms like it wet or dry and if they like it better light or dark. Next, the students took a walk around the school to explore and dig for worms! They found a total of eight worms. The kindergarten students were able to examine the worms up close and draw a picture of a worm they found!
